My funny Valentine

This year I thought I would try a fun tablescape in the kitchen for Valentine's Day.  I will still do a romantic one by the fireplace but I thought this would look nice in the kitchen.  The last few years we have been staying home and doing a fondue by the fireplace. I will be working on that tablescape next week.

I got this little dog for my hubby on Valentine's Day a few years ago and I thought he would work perfect with the setting.

The plates say "you are one in a million".   I found them at our local grocery store.  It's amazing what you can find there.

The last Valentine's Day we went out it was anything but romantic.  When we used to go out we would go somewhere with a romantic atmosphere. One of our customers suggested it to my hubby and he made the reservations.  The place was called The Fort. Does that sound romantic?  Yes it looks like a fort and it was not romantic to me at all.  Here are some photos I found on the internet.

This is the room that we were seated in.  The chairs were like sitting on rocks.  The place was packed but I am sorry this was not my idea of romance.  The food was alright but it was a bit pricey.  I would rather stay home where it is more comfortable.

  1. Very cute! Love all the Valentine confetti scattered about and your decorated chandy! The Fort looks pretty awful! I'm with you stay home and be comfortable! Valentine's day is THE worst night to go out all year!

    1. Thank you. Yes it was pretty awful. I guess it would be ok to go there for fun since it has history but not for Valentine's Day. I was surprised there was that many people there. I agree that it is the worst night to go out. We have only done it a few times.

  2. Your table is wonderful and whimsical, and romantic. I love the plate stack and that adorable dog. All your table scatters really set this table as over the top.

  3. Fondue by the fireplace sounds wonderful! I love the kitchen table setting to get you in the mood for the big fondue night. Your soup tureen is gorgeous! It's so fun to find seasonal plates and accessories at the grocery store. Love those heart plates...you did good!

  6. I love your pretty romantic Valentine's Day table. The plates from the grocery store were a very lucky find to make this table perfect! Heart plates are very hard to find whether they are pretty like these or not so pretty.

I would much rather be at home on Valentine's Day too. I can't imagine a romantic evening at "The Fort" , seems to me you might as well eat at the Alamo.

  7. Love your Valentine's table. Those One In A Million heart dishes are adorable! The confetti and ribbons make this so festive! The Fort looks a bit formidable! I can see why hounding care for it especially for Valentine's Day! I love to go out for Valentine's Day - I figure if I don't have to cook I enjoying more :-) I am lucky that our area isn't so large that there are huge waiting lines to dine.

    1. Thank you. It is hard when you live in a big area to go out on Valentine's Day. The restaurants are always so noisy. I prefer a quiet evening at home myself.

  9. You made such a beautiful Valentines table. My Valentine days this year will be spent at the Great American Outdoor show in PA with my husband. Guns, Hunting and Fishing ..now that's just sheer romance at it's best. NOT!!

    1. I feel for you. I am glad that my husband isn't into hunting but he does like to fish. My husband's idea of romance is an action movie in fact that is what he got me for Christmas-2 sets of 8 action movies for a total of 16. Let's just say I don't have those anymore.

  14. Your kitchen table is so cute and fun. You're right, The Fort doesn't look very cozy and romantic. I love staying at home and having quality couple time... alone. Thanks for sharing at the #HomeMattersParty :)

  17. What a fun table Jody! The heart shaped plates are really cute. We learned long ago that going out to dinner on Valentine's Day would be an expensive disappointment most of the time, so we choose to stay home and cozy up by the fireplace!
    Enjoy the upcoming week.

    1. Thank you. We haven't gone out for a few years now. In fact The Fort was the last time. I myself would rather stay home as it doesn't seem special in a crowded noisy restaurant.

  20. I think the fondue idea is great! We don't have a fondue pot but maybe I should look for one. Going out when everyone will be packed with customers doesn't appeal to me either.

    1. We always enjoyed going to a restaurant called The Melting Pot that is near our house. They have put out a cookbook so I bought one and use the recipes. I bought two stainless steel electric fondue pots and use one for the cheese and the other for cooking the meat. It is a lot of work on my part to get everything made and cut up but it is much less expensive than the restaurant.

  26. Love your table! I have fondue on the agenda for this Valentines dinner. We use to do it quite often, but it been 5 or 6 years since we've had it. Hubby and I would much rather eat at home on Valentines than fight the crowds and noise. Thanks for sharing with SYC.

    1. You should try it sometime. We do a cheese fondue in the beginning with vegetables and we cook steak, chicken and shrimp for the meal in another pot. I have a cookbook from The Melting Pot that has tons of different recipes.
