bookcases are finally done!

I finally got my bookcases done.  It has only taken me a year and a half and two background colors.  The cases had a white background so I painted it this green first.  I lived with it for awhile (about a year) and decided I didn't really like it that much.  This is a strange room across from the dining room and I had been using it as a catch all for when I changed the seasonal decor.

I decided a couple of weekends ago to paint it a soft yellow instead and got to decorating them. Here is the new color before I decorated.

It is hard to get good close ups as this space is quite small.  Here are the pictures that I was able to get.

Now here are the rest of the close ups that I took.  I am going to recover the bench and I still need to work on my desk area that is off to the right.  When we had the internet installed this is the only room that they could put the main router in so I had to put my old table in here for my computer.  I will post those pictures when I get it all done.  Now for the close ups.

I think that I like the pale yellow the best.  I just didn't care for that shade of green that I had chosen first.

New camera and fixing an old lamp

My husband got me a new camera for Christmas to take better pictures with for my blog.   I am having a hard time with it.  It is one of those that you have to push the button half way first to focus and then take the picture.  Well guess what that sounds easier than it is (at least for me).  It takes me forever to get a picture.

My New Years wish for 2014 is that I can have more time to do the things that I enjoy and focus on my blog.  As you know most of the time New Year resolutions don't happen.  Since I have to work 6 days a week at my husband's coin shop I haven't had much time to do the things I want to do around the house.  So my first post of the new year isn't very glamorous.  Hopefully I will get my projects done before this year is over.

I have this lamp that has been in my family as long as I can remember.  My husband threw away the top part that was always coming off because he did not now what it was.  I have found a substitute.  I found this little item at Goodwill and it was half off so I got it for $1.

Of course I need it to be gold in color and I do not need the wood base.  My hubby knocked out the bottom so I could get to painting it.
Now it is ready for the primer.
Here is what the top of the lamp looked like before.
Now for the finished product. I think that it looks better than the original topper.

This lamp is in my craft room/guest room in our basement.  I am still working on the basement rooms hopefully I will get everything done before summer as I will need to work on the jungle in the backyard.

Christmas 2013 Part 2

Well, I finally got done as much as I will this year.  Things have been busy at the shop.  Here are the final pictures of the dining room buffet and powder room.

These are the best pictures I could get of the buffet.

This year I decided to do mercury glass and whites.  I think next year I am going to do a Country Christmas.

Now for the powder room.  Since it is painted blue I like to use brown and blue decorations.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!!! God Bless!!!!

Christmas 2013 Part 1

Here is some of the Christmas that I was able to get done.  I am still working on a few more areas.  I wish I had more time to decorate but it has been busy at the store and we are selling more on Ebay and I have to waste most of my time packing up items and standing in line at the post office, which I am not enjoying this time of the year.

Here is my dining room table.  I still have to complete the buffet.

Here is my kitchen area.

And last but not least part of my living room.

Christmas past and present and a new light

I have been sooo busy at work these past weeks that I haven't had a chance to get much of my Christmas decorating done.  I did get most of the outdoors done this past weekend and got the tree done.  It is not easy working 6 days a week and trying to get all the fall decor put away and bring out all the Christmas decor.  We decided to close this Friday and Saturday so my husband can play a poker tournament.  Yes my husband used to be a professional poker player, now he only does it occasionally.  Here are some pictures of Christmas past.
This is my tree at our last home.  It still looks like this but I added more decorations.  It will show up again later on.

Now it's time for a little bit of Christmas present.
This is my tree this year.  Don't have any presents for it yet.

Here is a close up of a section of the tree.

I don't have all of the porch done yet, but I did get the railings done.  We had our house repainted a lighter green color.  I posted the new color awhile back and I just couldn't live with that color.  This is not my first choice of color but when the next door repainted before we did they picked the color that we wanted which was a light brown.  So we stuck with the green that was here originally.
Here is the garage area.

Wheel barrow by front porch.
Light post
And finally a close up of one of the railings.  Since I have the next few days off I will be getting the rest of the decorating done.  If a certain little someone doesn't bother me too much.  Right now he is not too happy with me since I took him to the vet on Monday to be neutered. Here is a picture of Kolby with his antlers on.  Let's just say that he didn't like them too much.
Now for the item. I finally got my husband to change out the light in our entry.  It's only been over a year.  I had to add the medallion on the ceiling to cover up the ring that the last light left since I don't have any of the paint to touch it up.  I think I did a pretty good job of matching the bronze color of the light on the medallion which comes in white only.  Our house was built in 2001 but I think this light fixture looks like it is from the 80's.

Here is the after picture.

Pantry cabinet and completed butler pantry

I finally finished the final touches in my butler pantry and revamped a cabinet for my pantry.  Here is the cabinet before I painted it.
Here is the cabinet in the pantry after I finished it. It is hard to get a good picture as the butler pantry is right across from the pantry.  Not much room to get a good picture.
Here is the butler pantry finally finished.  I had to stand inside the pantry as far back as possible to get this photo and I still couldn't get the whole cabinet in the picture.
I took a close up picture of the decor.
Today I decided to replace the rooster on top of the hutch with a different one.  The old one was ceramic and the new is metal.

I just had to include this cute picture of our new puppy Kolby.  He is 6 months old now.  He is quite the handful.  I got this new throw and he thinks that it is his.

New color for house

We had a bad hail storm in August and needed to get a new roof and paint.  We decided to change the color from a light grey green to a darker green.  It is funny how those small paint chips look soooo much different when the whole house is painted.  They even came out and painted a sample which seem to look ok at the time.  Right now I am not so sure about the color.  They haven't finished it yet but the the front is close to being done. I think right now it is just a color shock for me since I have lived with the lighter color (which I never liked when we moved here) for over a year now. I sure that I will get used to it over time.

Here is the before picture of the old color.

Now here is what it is looking like now.

This isn't exactly what it looks like in person.  It's funny how the color changes when you take a picture verses in person.  It is more a medium sage color.  Don't you just love the contractor sign in the front.

The shutters above the garage door and all of the doors are going to be a brownish red color.  Still not sure about this color.  But it was approved by the HOA.  It is better than the one down the street that just got painted a really dark teal.  Maybe it will look better this Spring.
