I am excited that I have finally got one side of my formal living room done (except for a few touches like curtain panels, etc.).
I have been having a hard time finding yellow and red decor. It seems like every store that I go to (Hobby Lobby, HomeGoods, Gordman's, Ross and Marshall's) only have farmhouse decor. Now don't get me wrong, I am not knocking farmhouse decor but my house just does not support that type of decor with all the dark wood trim and doors. My home has more of a Tuscan look to it inside. So does a girl do? She has to shop the other rooms in the house and resort to thrift store finds that can be painted. I found two of these at the Salvation Army thrift store. They are about 8 inches tall and they cost $4.24 for the pair.
So one went yellow and other went red.
They both found a home on my hutch.
Can you see where they both are? The yellow one is easy to see but the red one is more difficult in these pictures. I have it on it's side on the top shelf in front of the silver candlestick holders. I have definitely decided to paint this hutch a dark brown but leave the lighter brown the way it is. I love the way the top of the hutch turned out. I have always wanted to get a clock for this room and I think it fits perfectly above the hutch.
My newly made over table got some decor also. I was lucky enough to find the plate and the metal red vase at the thrift store too.
I also got the other two cornice boards done on the other end of the room. Now all I need to do is get that side decorated and of course I am still needing those curtain panels.
On another note is anyone else battling the Ghost of Christmas Glitter? I love all the Christmas decor that is glittered but it seems that no matter how many times I vacuum and mop the floors it keeps showing up. What I find strange is that the floors look free of glitter when I get done cleaning them but the next week when I clean them the glitter mysteriously reappears. It seems that it takes many months for my home to become glitter free.

Table makeover
This table has been in my family for as long as I can remember. I am pretty sure that is older then me. As you can see it has been used a lot. It is suppose to be used for a kitchen table but since the sides fold down it works perfectly as a side table. It received a makeover this weekend.
Here is how it turned out.
It received a dark brown paint and a lighter brown on the top. I also used some stain on the light brown color which helped bring out the wood grain.
We got some new chairs for the family room so I moved the old ones here in the formal living room. I am still working on this side of the room getting it redecorated. Here is what I have done so far.
I still need to get panels for the cornice boards and I am thinking about painting the white hutch a dark brown. I still need to add the final touches to this room. I was going to get most of this area done on Sunday but this is what happened. A little bit over a foot of snow.
I spent most of my day doing snow removal. It didn't help that my hubby was gone for the day so I had to snow blow the driveway twice. Our driveway is over 5000 sq ft and I can only use the small snow blower. The big one I think weighs as much as I do and I just can't handle it. So needless to say I had to snow blow it once in the morning and once more in the afernoon as it snowed another 5 inches in between. Let's just say that my whole body is sore today and could barely walk down the stairs this morning.

Getting back to normal
I kept the wood and metal wall hanging that I used for Christmas and added some greenery and candles.
On the hearth I have a flower arrangement, candles and my wood and metal box that you can use as an ottoman. We did get new chairs for this room. You can see one of them in the right bottom corner. The hubby wanted a recliner and I compromised with these chairs. I will be posting about them when I do the rest of the room.
Here is the right side of the fireplace.
The right bottom of the fireplace I have my stacked suitcases that I added a tall candlestick and a small metal container.
On the wall left of the fireplace is the side table. This area is where the tv should go but it is too small for the entertainment center so it is on the trunk that you see in the bottom left corner.
Now I just need to get the rest of the room done and I can get started on the formal living room. Hopefully I can get most of the two rooms done this weekend.
