So I have been wanting to redo our fireplace in the family room ever since we moved in last October. I was thinking on adding some nice wood moldings. I probably won't get to doing that until after Christmas so I did this instead.
I used some dark brown paint to the sides and down below.
I think this is just the pop of color that I needed to tide me over until I come up with a new design.
Here is the before. I had to use the one from the previous owners as I could not find where I had put my picture.
I definitely like the darker color better. I was going to continue it to the top but thought the bottom would be enough for now. I also painted the drywall below to tie in with the wood next to it.
I like the little bit of a curve that is next to the fireplace. Perfect spot for my boxes.

You are so right! Paint has made so much difference! Before, the FP looked so small and uninteresting. You've definitely given it much more presence. Love how you decorated it as well. I think taking the paint all the way to the top would look great too - with contrasting colour in the niche area. Course if you have further plans for the FP I'm sure you don't want to do too much beforehand. Anyway good job!
ReplyDeleteThank you Lori. I thought about adding the darker color up top buy decided to wait and see if I am going to change the entire look.

ReplyDeleteI love it!! great look, what paint did you use for the tile? it is all so perfect!
ReplyDeleteThank you. The tile didn't get painted just the drywall around it. I think the dark paint color coordinated better with the tile then the light color.
