New furniture

My hubby told me the other day that he wants to get new furniture for the family room.  When I heard this I got all excited.  I have never really liked the style of our current furniture.  I love my coffee table and end tables but I don't care for the couch, oversized chair and the loveseat that matches that I put in the sitting room.  So I am already thinking about what I want when he says to me that he wants two recliners instead of a couch and he still wanted to keep the oversized chair.  Boy did that burst my bubble.  I was already dreaming of some classy furniture instead of all the oversized stuff that we have been buying over the years.  To make a long story short I was able to get him to compromise.  I suggested that we get rid of all three pieces since they are a set and replace them with two recliners and a loveseat in the family room and then get a chair and ottoman for the sitting room.  He did agree but I could not believe what he wanted for the recliners.  Here is the furniture that I want for the rooms.

This is the loveseat that I want.  It has a matching recliner but he said it was uncomfortable.

I would be happy with either one of these recliners.

Here is the chair and ottoman that I want for my sitting room,

Now here are the recliners that he wants.  Either one would do for him but I don't like them.

They look bigger in real life then they do in the pictures.  I am sorry but I just can't get excited over these two.  We need to go to the bigger store since the store by our house didn't have the two recliners that I like on the sales floor.  I just hope that one of them will be comfortable enough or if they have more choices that will go with the loveseat.  I have always had to compromise on our family room furniture but this time I would like to have my way.

    1. All the pieces we have recline but he says that they are not comfortable anymore. I just don't think that what he wants will go with the loveseat that I want.

  2. Oh those men....so predictable! Thankfully my husband has washed his hands of furniture buying input, lol. He had been recliner-less for about ten years because he only wanted the puffy man cave style. But about six years ago I was redoing our living room and found a wing back recliner (similar to what you've shown) and he loves it! In fact, it is getting time to replace and he has asked for the same style...hooray! I did break down years ago and "let" him have a puffy recliner..but it was mauve (during the country blue/mauve days in the 90's).Not his favorite look, ha ha! Good luck on your furniture adventure. I know you will make anything you choose look lovely in your home. Jane

    1. I too remember the 90's with the blue and mauve. My how far we have come. We used to have a wing back recliner that he liked and I am hoping that we can find another one. I might even rethink the loveseat. I only chose that one since it had a matching recliner that was nice. I got to thinking that it might not go with my tables. I am hoping that we will go this weekend and see what they have.

  4. I feel your pain! We have two of those ugly things right now. We are currently house hunting, and when we find what we're looking for, those two chairs may just get lost during the move. Either that or we'll have to find a home with a man cave where they can make their new home.

    1. That is so funny about losing them in the move. I agree that they belong in a man cave. The only area I would allow them in is the basement family room but he is using that as a home gym so there is no room.

  5. I know what you mean about the BIG recliners. We moved a couple of years ago, downsizing, and buying new chairs.
DH wanted the same style your husband likes. Me, not so much! We were happy to find two that both of us liked. l I too wanted the first style you pictured above, but we did get two in leather (soft) similar to the third picture you have above. I wanted chairs with legs, and NO handle on the side, so they would not look like recliners. My living room is not large, and with a loveseat (again like your choice above), and the two recliners for seating, it looks very nice, and I have received complements on the room. So hang in,there are good looking and comfortable recliners out there. We did shop around before finding ours, but it wasn't hard to find them. Good luck...please post when you get the new furniture...can't wait to see what you buy.

    1. I am glad to hear from someone with the same situation. I have a pretty good sized room but you have to leave room for a pathway in front of the entertainment center as that is where you enter the house by the garage. I also have to leave a pathway behind our couch so we can get to our bedroom. It's nice to hear that just using a loveseat with the recliners looks good. I will be posting the new furniture since I am waiting to revamp the room oncel the new furniture is in.

  6. Jody I love your choices. The fabrics and the styles are so rich and warm, I love the chair and the ottoman. I can see why you have a difference of opinion. Can't wait to see what you buy!
