Bye Bye Backsplash

It has been almost three years since we moved into this house.  From day 1 I have wanted to change my kitchen backsplash.  For some reason I am not a fan of using what I call floor tile (because of the size) as a backsplash.  Also they didn't match the tile in the corner window area.  It is pretty noticeable.  That is why I normally have something sitting in the corner.

Here is the tile and decorative pieces that we picked out.

We are going to do 3 rows of the subway tile on the bottom.  The decorative strip in between the two tiles and then we will have to figure out the spacing of the decorative squares.  It will looks something like this.

The decorative squares will probably be spaced out more than in the picture.

Today we got the new drywall up.  We had to tear out the old as when we were taking the tile off we noticed that it had been patched previously.  It would just crumble when we removed tiles.  We won't be getting any tile up this weekend since I have to float parts of the wall and that needs to dry.  Here is our progress today.

We should be able to get it done next weekend. This is the fourth house that we have done tile work in so it should go pretty quickly.  I am so ready to get my kitchen back in order.

My newest HomeGoods find

So I went shopping at HomeGoods the other day to see if they had any Fall/Halloween decor out yet hoping that it will put me in the mood.  I ended of getting some pretty nice things that range from $12.99 to $29.99.

I was very surprised at the prices for the pumpkins.  The large white one was $24.99, the two orange ones were $19.99.

The three white pumpkins are one piece and it was only $19.99.  I am thinking about painting two of the pumpkins a different color.

The three stacked pumpkins are made of material and I just couldn't resist this cute wheel barrow.  Although I am thinking about removing or painting over the words "Fall".

Now I am starting to get in the mood to get my Fall decorating done.  I will need to wait a few more weeks as we are redoing our kitchen backsplash and the only time we have to do it is on the weekend.  Please check back for the post that I will be doing on the backsplash.

Fall is soon approaching

I am always amazed how fast the seasons come and go.  I love to watch the Garage Sale Mystery movies on the Hallmark channel.  When they were advertising them in May to air in August I thought "Wow, that's a long way off".  Now they are airing the last one this Sunday.  I feel like I am way behind on getting my Fall decorating started.  I haven't even begun to venture down to basement storage room and start digging out my boxes.  At this point I don't even have a clue as to how I want to decorate my rooms yet.

For now I have to go back to some previous years and see if I can get some inspiration.

I am hoping that I can inspired soon as I am having a hard time getting excited about decorating this year.  I have been working in my yard every weekend this year and that has zapped me out of any energy to put towards decorating.

My pond this season and I am back

It feels good to back in the blogging world again.  I took some time off to get some Spring cleaning done around the house that ran into Summer.  The yard has taken most of my time since we have 3/4 of an acre.  The major project was getting the pond up and running.  We inherited this pond so it has been a learning experience.  The past two years we kept it running all winter but it is a hassle in the winter to keep the water level up so we decided to drain it last Fall.  I guess you could say I have a love/hate relationship with this pond.  I love it but I hate to clean it all the time.

I needed to paint my adirondack chairs by the firepit this year.  I wanted a pop of color.  Here is how they looked before.

Here is how they look now with a new color.  I love this teal color and was able to find some pillows to match.

This year I added a few new fun elements.  The first is my alligator stepping stones.  I have had these for years but they needed some freshing up so I painted them.  I think he looks great in this area.  It looks like he is trying to sneak up on you.

I got these two cranes at Tuesday Morning last month.  I picked them for the color.  They match my adirondack chairs.

I already had a set of cranes but in a smaller size.  They needed to be repainted so I painted them the same as the alligator.  I put them up at the top of the waterfall.

Here are a few more pictures of the pond area.

The next two pictures are taken from the stairs of the upper deck.
