Summer front porch

Today I did a few small changes to the front porch.  I took away all the Americana decor and replaced it with some reds and yellows.

I haven't done much to front door area.  I still need to figure out what I want to do on the right side of the door.

I love my little mail box that I got from Decor Steals.  It is not functional here but there was a nail there already and I thought it would look great here.   I will probably put some greenery or flowers in it.

I did finally get the front flower bed planted.  I left some room for some more flowers.

It looked better yesterday but the deer came up and ate some of my flowers.  It's funny how they love what is suppose to be deer resistant.
I saw a mama and baby the other day across at our neighbors house.  The babies are so cute.  We also have a mama with twins but I haven't been able to get a picture.

New look in the dining room

A few weeks ago I was able to get my dining room clean up and redecorated.  After Christmas I had just been using this area as a catch all room.  My dining room is small and doesn't get much light so some of the pictures turned out a little dark.   I thought that I would decorated with lighter colors for the summer.  I love the soft cream and yellows of the flowers so they were my inspiration.

Just a simple tablescape until Fall.

I have French Country and Tuscan mixed in my dining room.  The bottom of the buffet has more Tuscan decor.  I can't get a good picture of it as the table is in the way.  My dining room is pretty small.  In order for me to take pictures I have to stand outside the patio door.

I love my wine barrel cabinet.  It is made to hold wine bottles.

Here is the full view of my dining room from the foyer.  I still need to change out the cornice board and add some panels. I just haven't found the right material yet.

How to get the look of bead board

When we bought our house I knew that I would what bedroom I would be using for my craft room.  The back bedroom already had chair railing installed so I thought that bead board would look good below it.  Now installing bead board would be a major task for me so I looked for alternatives.

I used textured wallpaper that looks like bead board.  So much easier to install.  The only problem with this wallpaper is that you don't want to hit it hard with anything as it will make a dent.  Here is what the room looked like before.

Next picture is with the wallpaper installed.

Since I would be painting the wallpaper and chair rail white I decided to paint all the trim in the room white also.

Then I choose a soft yellow to paint the walls.  I know that it hard to tell the difference in the pictures as the room faces the north and doesn't get much natural light.

Now I just need to paint the doors white and get the room organized.  This bedroom has it's own bathroom that I will painting the trim white and the walls the same yellow. I also need to revamp the mirror and vanity cabinet.

New cabinet at the top of the stairs

I had an empty spot at the top of the stairs that was screaming for a cabinet.  I needed to find something that wasn't very deep so you still have room to walk by.  I found this cabinet at Kirkland's.  It fit perfectly in this spot.  I think that I will hang a picture above it once I find one that will work.

I love the scroll details.  I haven't put anything inside it yet.  I am thinking about putting some of my ironstone inside.  This cabinet came with feet but I like it on the floor so I don't have to clean underneath.

I choose to do yellow and cream colors for the decor.  I still need to get a new wall color for this area.

Kitchen island is finally done

This weekend I finally got my kitchen island done.  It has only taken a couple of months but it was worth the wait.  I designed it and my hubby put it together for me.  It only took me a about three days to get it painted, glazed and get the polyurethane on it.

Here is how it looked before.

The first step was to add some beadboard and the corbels.

Next the columns got trimmed out, baseboard added and corner pieces attached.

And last was the painting and glazing.

It looks so good I almost want to paint all the other cabinets this way.  But I think that I will keep them dark.  I have been working on many projects these past two weeks and will be posting them soon.
